Larry Teachey has been a custodial assistant with the School District of Philadelphia for 33 years. An active 32BJ District 1201 member, Larry is deeply invested in saving public education and making Philadelphia a better place for future generations.
When 32BJ District 1201 members faced massive layoffs in 2012 due to Governor Corbett’s budget cuts, Larry was on the front line, marshaling the thousands of protesters who filled the streets in support of the workers.
Larry has continued to fight for public education by attending rallies, lobby days and talking to fellow members.
“I am concerned for the kids and the staff that make the schools run. Corbett is building prisons instead of investing in kids. He’s building a new prison in Montgomery County right now. He could put that money in our schools. Instead, he lays-off noon time aids.”
Active in local politics, Larry doesn’t mince words about his hopes for a new Governor in 2014.
“I have been with the District for 33 years and I have never seen anything this bad. Philly cannot stand a second term of Corbett administration. He needs to go. I am going to do everything to get him out.”
