32BJ Statement on Gov. Cuomo’s Plan to Raise the Minimum Wage for State Workers

Attributable to Hector Figueroa, president of 32BJ:

“This well-deserved raise is great news for state workers and demonstrates the power of the Governor’s office to lift up those among us who struggle the most. We hope Governor Cuomo will continue to build upon the momentum sparked by fast food workers by fixing the broken contracting system at our area airports keeping 12,000 airport workers in poverty despite working full time. We also hope Governor Christie takes this most recent action as an example in how to lead, and works with Governor Cuomo and the Port Authority to quickly remedy the relentless struggles of yet another group of hard working men and women. Governor Cuomo’s actions today have shown us how elected officials can and should change lives in one fell swoop — now is also the time for airport workers.”
